October is a time when we start to wind down, look back over the year, and realise that all those bright and shiny New Year’s resolutions we made 10 months ago have amounted to nothing.

You could panic and beat yourself up about it, maybe get a gym membership or finally start on that reading list. Better late than never, after all. Or you could forgive yourself, remember all the accomplishments you racked up which you hadn’t even contemplated in January, and spend the rest of the year rewarding your hard work with a mountain of sweet video games.

There’s a new game coming out almost every day this October, so chances are there’s something that will catch your fancy. Big releases include charming platformer Yooka-Laylee And The Impossible Lair, military shooter Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare (not to be confused with the 2007’s Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare), and the highly anticipated space sci-fi roleplaying game The Outer Worlds.

Fans of turn-based roleplaying games can choose between Warsaw, set during World War II, and Mistover, set in a fantasy world. Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint offers more military shooting action if Call of Duty isn’t your speed. And Nintendo’s Switch library continues to grow this month, adding games such as Overwatch and Baldur’s Gate as well as the new ring controller.
