Um, What? Netflix’s New Comedy Stars Drew Barrymore As A Flesh-Eating Zombie
'Santa Clarita Diet' just became our most anticipated new Netflix show.
Forget about the second season of Stranger Things. Your number one most anticipated Netflix show of 2017 is Santa Clarita Diet.
The series was first announced by the streaming service as a comedy about married realtors, played by Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant, whose “vaguely discontented lives” are thrown into turmoil after a “dramatic change” sends their lives “down a road of death and destruction… but in a good way.”
As it turns out, that “dramatic change” is Barrymore’s character being killed and then brought back to life with an insatiable hunger for human flesh.
“We do this sort of Cro-Magnon type of evolution with her over the course of the ten episodes. No gimmicks, no prosthetics, just an awakening,” Barrymore told USA Today. She also described the show as “optimistic”.
Given Barrymore’s comments, plus the fake dieting ads Netflix is using to advertise the show, I reckon you can mark this down as a satire.

All ten episodes of Santa Clarita Diet will hit Netflix on February 3.
