While you might know them best for producing basically all of your favourite shows, over the past few years Netflix has also been quietly assembling a roster of some of the biggest names in stand-up comedy. Since January, they’ve released new specials from Dave Chappelle, Amy Schumer, Louis C.K., Sarah Silverman, Trevor Noah, Mike Birbiglia, Tracy Morgan and many more.

They’ve also inked a staggering $40 million deal with Chris Rock, and will next month debut a new special from the one and only Jerry Seinfeld.

Titled Jerry Before Seinfeld, the hour-long special from the veteran funnyman will see him explore his comedic roots, from his childhood on Long Island to his early days in stand-up comedy.

“My parents didn’t even know our names!” Seinfeld exclaims in a new trailer. “They were ignorant, they were negligent. We grew up like wild dogs in the ’60s. No helmets, no seatbelts, no restraints!”

Jerry Before Seinfeld is the first of two specials the comedian will star in for Netflix. He’s also developing new scripted and non-scripted programs for them, and will debut the latest season of his series Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee on the streaming service later in the year.

Jerry Before Seinfeld hits Netflix on September 19.
