Your Internet Boyfriend Timothée Chalamet Is The King In The First Reviews For ‘The King’
All hail.
The reviews are in and it turns out Timothee Chalamet makes a jolly good King of England. The Call Me By Your Name and Lady Bird star has been getting strong notices for his performance in The King, which debuted at the Venice Film Festival ahead of a date with your Netflix queue in mid-October.
The ahistorical drama, adapted by Australian director David Michod from William Shakespeare’s trilogy of plays Henry IV Part One, Henry IV Part Two and Henry V, stars Chalamet as Prince Hal, later King Henry V, who finds himself leading the country as it heads to war against the Dauphin of France, played by Robert Pattinson. And according to the critics, while the film itself is nothing special, Chalamet gives the role his all.
“The King will be no one’s crowning achievement,” wrote IndieWire, “but it’s safe to assume that Chalamet’s rule has just begun”.
“Chalamet swells to fit the material,” agreed Vanity Fair. “What works about the performance, really, is the earnestness. Chalamet is eager to do a good job, just as Henry is … straightening his lanky posture as he goes, rising up into the role like a man ascendant.”
In their review, The Hollywood Reporter described Chalamet’s performance as “fine-grained”, throwing in an “all hail” for good measure. The Wrap, meanwhile, called the actor’s casting “brilliant”.
Like they say, it’s good to be the King.
The King hits Netflix on October 11.
