The Loved One (2009)

In the brouhaha that surrounded Margaret Pomeranz’s please-be-kind-to-Aussie-films op-ed – including this fantastic rebuttal by Junkee’s resident Doctor Who know-it-all Lee Zachariah – little was made of the fact that David and Margaret refused to even review Wolf Creek 2 (2014).

Aussie horror, much like throughout the rest of the world, is seen as the questionable, shall-not-be-spoken-of cousin of our more respectable dramas, but one of the very best is this warped and demented slice of mean, gruesome horror. Directed by Sean Byrne
Starring Robin McLeavy, Xavier Samuel, John Brumpton, Victoria Thaine and Jessica McNamee
