Ryan Gosling is really smug about that time he saved jazz.

The actor hosted the season premiere of Saturday Night Live over the weekend, and spent most of his opening monologue taking the piss out his part in La La Land.

“You guys know I saved jazz, right?” asked the baby goose, in reference to the sarcastic reaction to his not quite Oscar-winning musical. “I guess it was dying, and I saved it!”

Gosling went on to share an anecdote from the set of his upcoming film, Blade Runner 2049.

“The first day of shooting on Blade Runner I met Harrison Ford, and he walks right up to me and he looks me right in the eye and he says, ‘Ryan… what the heck is jazz?'”

“Well, let me unpack that a little for you, Harrison.”

Fortunately, Emma Stone was on hand to set her co-star straight.
