The writers at Saturday Night Live have capped off a miserable week for Malcolm Turnbull, with a sketch taking the piss out of the PM’s disastrous phone call with US President Donald Trump.

The six minute cold open sees Trump, played by Alec Baldwin, meeting with his chief strategist Steve Bannon, depicted as the literal grim reaper. “I’ve had a long day,” bemoans Trump. “I’m tired and cranky and I feel like I could just freak out on somebody.”

“Then maybe you should call Australia?” suggests Bannon.

The scene then sees Trump ring Turnbull, played by SNL regular Beck Beckett.

“I hear there’s been a lot of blowback over your Muslim ban,” remarks the Prime Minister.

“No there wasn’t, everyone loves it” replies Trump. “And we had to do it because of that yuge massacre at Bowling Green.”

Things go from bad to worse when Turnbull brings up the refugee deal. “President Obama said America would accept 1,200 refugees,” explains the Prime Minister. “Your country’s compassion will not be forgotten.”

“No refugees, America first, Australia sucks, your reef is failing, prepare to go to war!” shouts Trump, before abruptly hanging up the phone.

Whether the sketch inspires an angry 3am Twitter rant from Turnbull remains to be seen.
