The Trailer For X-Men Horror Spinoff ‘The New Mutants’ Is Here And It Is Truly Terrifying
A very different kind of X-Men movie.
Say what you will about Hollywood’s ongoing obsession with superheroes, but at least the X-Men franchise has been trying to keep things fresh. In recent years the series has stepped away from Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters and in doing so has delivered two of its strongest entries: the ultra-violent action comedy Deadpool and the existential western Logan.
But for their next trick, the producers are venturing into horror movie territory – and I’ll be damned if it doesn’t look like they’ve nailed that too.
Inspired by the X-Men comic offshoot of the same name, The New Mutants follows five young mutants who find themselves trapped inside a very creepy hospital/asylum. We’re talking mad scientists, dudes in masks, hands coming out the wall levels of creepy here.
In an interview with The A.V. Club earlier this year, director Josh Boone said he set out to make “a full-fledged horror movie set within the X-Men universe. There are no costumes. There are no supervillains. We’re trying to do something very, very different.”

Yeah, no kidding.
In addition to getting the spooky vibes bang on, Boone has also put together a cast of seriously impressive young talent, including Anya Taylor-Joy (The Witch), Charlie Heaton (Stranger Things) and Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones).
Seriously, I cannot wait to check this out.
The New Mutants hits cinemas in Australia on April 12.
