Good grief! If you’ve ever been forced to helplessly watch a family Christmas disintegrate following a furious political argument spurred on by day drinking, then there’s much to relate to in Episode Seven of the Game of Thrones prequel. Writer Kevin Lau manages to squeeze in several enormous plot pivots with a jam-packed episode that sees kin pitted against kin, and the result was as hectic as you’d expect.

So without any further ado, here are our favourite memes.

Viserys Is Sick And Tired Of Everyone’s Shit

Frankly, keeping the extended families of House Targaryen from knifing each other has aged poor King Viserys like milk, with the long-suffering monarch being pushed to breaking point in the latest episode.

Death At A Funeral

The House Of The Dragon writers’ room must be full of introverts, as pretty much all of the conflict and horror faced by the characters in the GOT prequel has so far been staged in public events. Episode Seven is no different, with the airing of the family grievances finally taking place following the funeral of Daemon Targaryen’s (Matt Smith) wife Laena Velaryon (Nanna Blondell).

Conflict is triggered after youngster Aemond Targaryen’s desire for a dragon finally sees him stealing the recently deceased Laena’s mighty mount Vhagar, leading to a dust-up between the Targaryen cousins that leaves Aemond missing an eye.

As the entire family is brought before the King to explain just what the hell happened, and some Jerry Springer tier drama unfolds after Queen Alicent (Olivia Cooke) demands an eye-for-an-eye, with allegations of Princess Rhaenyra’s (Emma D’Arcy) affairs finally being unleashed in public.

Notably, despite copping a hearty slashing, Aemond still chalks the whole thing up as a win, happily trading a retina for his much desired fire-breathing lizard.

HBO Didn’t ‘Bury Their Gays’, For Once

Seeking to consolidate her power in the final minutes of the episode, Princess Rhaenyra’s plot to marry Daemon spells certain doom for another LGBTIQ+ character in the Game of Thrones canon. But, like something out of Ocean’s Eleven, Prince Laenor’s (John Macmillan) death is averted through an elaborate switcher-roo, leaving him to sail off into the sunset with his lover.

Despite graciously refraining from cold-blooded murder, Rhaenyra’s family has probably been traumatised yet again by the presumed death of another father figure.

With another time jump slated for next week’s episode, we will have to wait and see whether the grudges of House Targaryen spawned from this recent in-fighting finally sour into all-out warfare.
