Ever wanted to see a man crash a blimp into a building and then stand up, unscathed? 'GTA' has you covered.

GTA -- the wildest deaths

From its very conception, the Grand Theft Auto series — known affectionately as GTA by its fans — has balanced the realistic with the deeply, deeply strange.

Nowhere is that clearer than in GTA V, a massive, sprawling universe of death and destruction that tasks players with gloriously mundane acts, from taking selfies on their phone to driving around a packed city. It’s a life simulator, albeit the kind of life where you can be mown down by a passing car with no word of warning, or drive a blimp into the side of a tower and then get up, unscathed.

Indeed, dying in bizarre and outre ways has become the bread-and-butter of the series. Every time you cross the road in GTA, every time you jump in your car and go for a spin, you are taking your life in your own hands.

Going bowling with your friend? Prepared to be wasted. Taking a snapshot of some glorious mountains, rendered in beautiful detail? Prepare to have a helicopter fall out of the sky and onto your head. Standing next to a petrol pump? Prepare for an errant driver to blow that thing the fuck up, taking you with it.

There’s a beautiful, morbid humour to such pratfalls, a kind of Jerry Lewis slapstick combined with the novel destruction of the Final Destination series. You’re never safe in GTA, even when you think you are.

Thus, it’s unsurprising that a simple prompt from a Twitter user — “the best part about GTA is how easily you can die from the foulest shit” — has led to a bevy of clips circulating online, each depicting increasingly ludicrous ways you can be taken out.

I mean, just try to look at these vicious America’s Funniest Home Videos outtakes and try to keep a straight face.
