Netflix’s ‘Breaking Bad’ Movie Has A New Trailer, And Jesse’s In Trouble
Is Jesse Pinkman OK????
Jesse Pinkman is the secret weapon of Breaking Bad.
Sure, Walter White (Bryan Cranston) might be the character who gets emblazoned on t-shirts, and immortalised in memes. But Jesse is the show’s beating heart. While Walter is slowly corrupted, Jesse remains true to some fragile, hurt part of himself, becoming the eternal innocent and the audience’s one true surrogate.
To that end, it was the true genius of the show’s final episode that (spoilers for Breaking Bad) Jesse got to ride off into the sunset. Killing him off might have once been on the show’s cards, but letting him make it to safety proved that series creator Vince Gilligan knows the difference between raising the stakes and simply being cruel.
Actually, uh, probably not best to assume that Gilligan’s quite clear on that line just yet. Yes, Jesse might have made it out to safety at the end of the series, but as El Camino, the new Breaking Bad movie proves, his troubles are far from over.
Exact details on the nature of that trouble aren’t clear in the trailer; it’s a short scene, not an overview of the plot, keeping in line with the way that Gilligan and his team have been keeping pretty shtum up till now.
But a conservative guess would be that Jesse hasn’t completely duped the Neo-Nazi threat that he and Walter found themselves besieged by throughout the final season. It’d be a good guess to assume that they’ll be the threat throughout this film, which will presumably follow Jesse as he attempts to evade the cops and the gangsters who would want him dead.
Guess we’ll find out when El Camino drops on Netflix this coming October 11. Of course, if you’re starved for Breaking Bad content, that gives you time to watch the entire series again in full.
