The First Trailer For The ‘Breaking Bad’ Movie Is Here, And Goddamn This Thing Looks Amazing
It's called 'El Camino', and it's coming very soon.
The series finale of Breaking Bad was a work of televisual art, bringing some of the most complicated and elegant moral arcs on television to a close. But that doesn’t mean that there weren’t a few loose ends to be tied up.
Spoilers for Breaking Bad follow.
After all, the seminal series ends with Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul) driving off into the sunset in an El Camino, free from the Nazis that had imprisoned him, not to mention the insidious clutches of his one-time chemistry teacher, Walter White (Bryan Cranston, in arguably one of the all-time great small screen performances.)
But the last shot of Jesse and his car were hardly definitive. Sure, Jesse was free — but for how long? Can you ever escape the past, or do evil deeds only ever catch up to you? How long was he going to be able to evade the cops, or the gangsters that he had wronged?
Well, looks like Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan himself is finally ready to answer some of these questions. Gilligan has written and directed a movie based on Jesse’s exploits after that charged series finale. It’s called El Camino, and it is set to premiere on Netflix this October.
Paul is back to reprise the iconic role, as expected. But it’s long been rumoured that Cranston will be getting in on the fun himself. Probably in flashback form — it’s safe to assume that Gilligan is not quite bold enough to retcon Walter’s bloody death. But hey, this is Breaking Bad, a show known for its left turns, so it’s probably best to assume that there’ll be some wild surprises.
The trailer doesn’t give away a whole lot, but it confirms that this is a real thing, that it’ll be possible to shove into your eyeballs really, really soon.
