A Creepy New ‘Barney & Friends’ Doco Is Coming To Ruin Our Childhoods
The kids' show was apparently a cesspit of "death threats", "drug rumours", and "intense hatred".
A new Peacock doco reckons it will delve into the dark side of Barney & Friends, which reportedly included “death threats” and “intense hatred”.
Yes, it’s hard to imagine that anyone could have a problem with this large purple dinosaur, but apparently one of the performers inside the suit — Bob West — said that his entire family received death threats.
“They were violent and explicit: death and dismemberment of my family,” he recounted. “They were gonna come and find me, and they were going to kill me.” Why anyone wanted to kill this man? Your guess is as good as mine.
Another Barney, David Joyner, spoke in the trailer of the Barney-bashing supposedly in full swing behind the scenes, which — once again — what on earth?
“As the beloved character was heading into the stratosphere, people couldn’t accept that this was just a show. And so, let the bashing begin,” he says.
If that wasn’t enough, an individual in the trailer for the series, moodily titled I Love You, You Hate Me added that he heard a rumour that Barney kept drugs in his tail.
Series director Tommy Avallone said making the film was personal, as he absolutely hated Barney as a child.
“As a teenager, for one of my birthdays I asked my aunt to make me a Barney costume, so my friends and I could beat him up on camera,” Avallone told People.
There’s no more to say, except that by all accounts, people really hated this show.
