You Need To Watch Ziggy Ramo Rework A Paul Kelly Classic On Top Of The Opera House
"Call it Australia, call it what you like - I just call it how I see it, and I see genocide."
Ziggy Ramo has released a moving rework of Paul Kelly and Kev Carmody’s classic song, ‘From Little Things Big Things Grow’.
Titled ‘Little Things’, it was recorded and released with Kelly’s blessing — apparently, the two artists became friends after the release of Ramo’s Black Thoughts album last year, and now collaborate together regularly.
“Gather round people I’ll tell you a story/200 years of history that’s falsified,” Ramo starts the track. “Are you ready to tell the other side?”
‘From Little Things Big Things Grow’ has always been such an important song to not only me, but Australia,” Ramo said in a statement today. “It was released in 1991, the same year as the Royal Commission into Indigenous deaths in custody.
“Thirty years on I feel honoured to be given permission by Paul Kelly and Kev Carmody to revisit the story from another perspective. ‘Little Things’ doesn’t fit into a genre, it doesn’t really fit into today’s musical landscape but this art felt urgent and I wanted to share it with the world.”
The accompanying music video was shot atop the Sydney Opera House — the same venue where Ramo delivered a powerful performance of Black Thoughts last September.
