Yungblud’s Mash-Up Of Taylor Swift And Avril Lavigne Certainly…Happened
Just because you can, doesn't mean you should.
British pop-rocker Yungblud popped onto BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge to ruin not just one but two perfectly good songs, mashing together an Avril Lavigne classic with Taylor Swift’s folklore highlight ‘Cardigan’.
Yungblud is one of the first artists to return to the Live Lounge after COVID-19 paused production. While nowhere quite as bad as Biffy Clyro’s abysmal take on ‘WAP’, Yungblud — real name Dominic Harrison — hasn’t exactly done either Swift or Lavigne song favour here.
Backed with strings and piano, Yungblud mashes together ‘Cardigan’ with Let Go classic ‘I’m With You’, complete with Lavigne’s trademark yodel-esque screams. It’s just all a bit too much and renders the songs super overwrought, though Swift has given it the tick of approval on her Twitter.
“WELL this took my breath away and I’m honored to hear Cardigan intertwined with the wonderful @AvrilLavigne’s masterpiece ‘I’m with you’,” she tweeted in response to Yungblud’s tweet of the cover. “Bravo and thanks @yungblud!!”

Last year, Yungblud did an excellent rendition of Death Cab For Cutie’s ‘I Will Follow You Into The Dark’ with Halsey for triple j’s Like A Version. We’ve included that below as a palate cleanser.
Most recently, the singer released ‘God Save Me, But Don’t Drown Me Out’, the lead single from his pending sophomore album Weird!, out in November.
