‘The Young Pope’ Is A Sexy HBO Show Starring Jude Law And It Looks Insane
Think 'House of Cards', but with a hot Pope.
If you’re making a TV show in 2016 — particularly for HBO — there are a few beats that you have to hit. More than likely it will be about a complex (white) man exploring what it all means, unpacking existential questions about morality while involved in a power struggle that requires him to deliver several vague yet stirring monologues throughout the episode.
Because House of Cards already exists, HBO is now looking at the Vatican for inspiration. But you know, a hotter version of the Vatican. Welcome to your new favourite show, The Young Pope!
Haha, excellent. Jude Law plays the first American pope, Pius XIII (or “Lenny”) who is waging a war on non-believers, while keeping an eye on the shady clergy who seem intent on taking this radical Pope down. Diane Keaton plays a nun named Sister Mary who seems less than thrilled to refer to Lenny as “Your holiness”. “Sin will no longer be forgiven at will,” Jude Law says, while pushing an old priest down with his foot so that the priest kisses his toes.
The first trailer came out a few months ago and even if you’ve seen it before, it really is worth watching again. What I would have given to be in the room when this show was pitched.
The Young Pope has already premiered in the UK and it will air in the US in January. How good is the golden age of television?

Cool.
