Good news for those hanging around dodgy street corners, trying to befriend a Jesse Pinkman type just in order to fend off those Breaking Bad withdrawals.

It seems Walter White, Jesse Pinkman, and indeed any of the characters featured in Breaking Bad (Gus Fring! Badger!), could pop up on spinoff Better Call Saul.

Executive producer Peter Gould told NY Daily News that the show’s timeline will span several decades, bouncing back and forth throughout different eras like a meth-addled beach ball.

“One of the great things about having a timeline which is flexible is that perhaps some of it takes place before Breaking Bad, during Breaking Bad, and after Breaking Bad. That gives us the ability to bring back characters that were killed on Breaking Bad, ” Gould said.

Gould was quick to stress that the new show’s success won’t hinge on the availability of Bryan Cranston, Aaron Paul, or Walt Jr’s breakfast supplier.

“We want to make a show that stands on it own, is its own story and is a brand extension,” he said. “We think we have a story that is worth making.”

This opens up a lot of possibilities, and while re-entering a world that was so perfectly preserved may constitute a breach by the more over-zealous fans…  just shut up will you? Perhaps Better Call Saul will implement storylines that shed new light on some of Breaking Bad’s plot – or offer added motive to the actions of some. Or maybe we’ll just get to hear Jesse Pinkman say “Yeah, bitch” again, while Todd stands menacingly in the background, missing Matt Saracen.

The much-maligned musical episode.

One character that certainly won’t be making a return is Walt’s foil Hank Schrader, as Dean Norris is contractually tied to CBS series Under the Dome. In May, Anna Gunn hinted that she was in talks to reprise Skyler White, news of which will hopefully shed some of the more undesirable viewer-base.

Better Call Saul launches in early 2015.
