So you mean to tell me a shrimp fried this rice?

The funniest jokes in the world are usually the most simple ones — and nothing encompasses this concept more than dad jokes.

But dad jokes are no longer reserved for balding boomers spitting out unfunny one-liners or fathers starting conversations with “hey hungry, I’m Dad”.

In recent years, dad jokes have become a synonym for any genuinely funny, pun-filled quip made by anyone of any age. The best example of a modern dad joke are the “so you’re telling me a…” memes that took over social media a few years ago.

Despite the meme originally cropping up in 2013, new life was breathed into it again over 2018 and 2019 on Twitter.

And now people on TikTok have decided to revive the concept in the strangely moving, yet perfectly punny, ‘Wrong Door’ trend that imagines what you’d find in certain establishments when you accidentally walk through a restaurants off-limits section.

Of course there’s the classic of shrimp frying rice, but geniuses on TikTok also envision even more bizarre scenarios like lo mein dropping it low at a Chinese restaurant and jerk chicken doing some fancy footwork over at a Jamaican spot.

The trend was actually started just over a week ago by TikTok creator Max Vains, who was the first person to upload the dramatic ”T-KT’ score from Attack on Titan.

But Vains didn’t actually focus in on food puns at all. Instead, Vains made a zookeeper joke by playing on the word “cougar” which is commonly used to describe an older woman… along with the wild cat of the same name.

Just like Vains, some big brains on TikTok have followed the same format and applied the play on words to other brands, products and, impressively, even monuments.

But most have decided to run with the Wrong Door trend by pushing their puns into the food world.

From California rolls literally rolling, doughnuts working on their basketball skills, cheese getting absolutely ripped, and shish kebabs busying “SHEEEESHING” out the back of the restaurant, food wrong doors have been absolutely flooding the app.

And for the Aussies, we’re haven’t been left out either.

Just imagine the joy you’d feel walking into Gloria Jeans and seeing THE Gloria putting her pants on. Amazing.
