Words With Friends Has Pledged To Remove Anti-Marriage Equality Ads From Their App
Oops.
The makers of your mum’s favourite mobile game have pledged to remove anti-marriage equality ads, after a user noticed them appearing on the app.
On Wednesday a Twitter user called out Words With Friends for featuring the Coalition for Marriage’s gross new video, about how marriage equality will cause cross dressing children to overthrow the government, or something.
Hi @WordsWFriends, I was looking to play a fun word game, not receive lies about marriage equality. Super disappointed in your company. pic.twitter.com/Nu6fQQM3Zp

The tweet was subsequently seen and shared by a number of other users, including Frenzal Rhomb guitarist and former triple j presenter Lindsay McDougall, who pledged to delete the game from his phone.
Woah, is that rubbish coming up during @WordsWFriends? That app’s up for deleting then. (Cheers @Ebswearspink) https://t.co/pIDqSchMXi

Hey @WordsWFriends I’m deleting your app for supporting this. Getting all my friends to do the same. https://t.co/hHPdijXIHv

A short time later the Words With Friends account responded, pledging to investigate and remove the ad, adding that it did not reflect the views of the company.
Hi, Lindsay. We are addressing this ad currently, we appreciate your concerns and will have it removed. Thank you.
