I’m just going to say it: There is truly no gameshow greater than Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? Nigeria.

Unlike the oddly serious nature of money-focused tv programmes, Millionaire Nigeria is just pure, unbridled joy. Specifically, this one clip from 2009 of Chimuanya Aroma Ufodike winning 10 million Naira — the top prize on the show — has been making waves online with good reason.

As the only one to ever win the top prize on the show, not only was Ufodike ecstatic over the news, but so was the studio audience and Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? Nigeria host, Frank Edoho.

Unconfidently answering “peace” to a question about what Wangari Muta Maathai won her Nobel Prize for, tensions were high.

“I’m sorry but economics actually was the right answer-NOOOO, YOU ARE RIGHT,” the host shouts as the entire studio bursts out screaming and confetti falls.

From Ufodike doing the finger point to the sky in celebration, to the lapel microphones absolutely being blown by the sound levels in the room, everything in the 59-second clip is nothing short of iconic.

For those unsure of how much 10 million Naira is exactly, it comes up to about roughly $36,000 AUD or $25,000 USD. While not exactly a million dollars to us, there was no stopping everyone’s excitement over the win.

Anyway, no one watching the clip was really focused on the money at all. Instead people were just trying to wrap their head around two things: The host’s so-bad-it’s-good fake-out and the eardrum-destroying screams in the room.

Adding to the conversation, the Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? Nigeria host in the clip even weighed in on the video after it went viral, calling Ufodike a “legend”.

“He told me that if he won, he would use some of the money to host a party and I was invited,” Edoho recalled. “After he won ₦10 million, I asked him, when’s the party? He answered, ‘What party?'”

Iconic scenes, honestly.
