Lena Dunham on dogs:

If your Lena Dunham Google alert didn’t already pick this one up, The New Yorker have published a wonderful short story from the Girls creator, writer and star, chronicling  her troubled relationship with dogs. There are some wonderful scenes: Dunham as a 15-year-old, stumbling on a box of puppies; Dunham as a 26-year-old, bringing a dog home to her allergic boyfriend; Dunham’s boyfriend, Jack Antonoff from Fun., being attacked by said dog after waving its little paws around and calling it “bro”. Here are some pictures of Duham’s dog, Lamby, that’ll get you in the mood.

Odd Future For Mountain Dew?

According to their website, Odd Future’s Tyler, The Creator was asked to direct a series of commercials for Mountain Dew (the same soft drink that hit him in the face at SxSW in 2011). Here is a teaser for the first, which will hit US TV this week. It’s officially directed by Tyler’s alter ego, Wolf Haley, and stars one of Tyler’s other alter egos, Felicia The Goat. These kids! Who knows!

Justin Timberlake’s OTHER Album:

The 20/20 Experience, Justin’s brand new album, is one of a pair. Late on Sunday night, Questlove (drummer from The Roots) posted the following missive on his website, Okayplayer: “spoiler alert. 20/20 Vol 2 comes out in nov. (10 songs now…..10 songs later= 20 vision).” Overnight, Justin Timberlake confirmed the rumour at an album release party in Los Angeles: “I need to clear up a rumour. This whole thing about this being the first half of the album is true.” Speaking of JT rumours: Timberlake may be up for the role of Daddy Warbucks in the remake of Annie, the one starring Quvenzhané Wallis (Beasts Of The Southern Wild), and produced by Will Smith and Jay-Z. Because where Jay-Z goeth…

Could we interest you in J. Mascis’ shoe?

Keep_DJR_Profile

That purple thing above is a custom sneaker produced by Dinosaur Jr.’s J. Mascis, in collaboration with the vegan shoe company, Keep. Mascis has always had a thing for purple, and the back of the shoe is embroidered in a way not dissimilar to his guitar strap. Nice! You can buy this shoe and its partner for $75 from here – and you’ll get an exclusive new track, and proceeds will go towards Amma, a non-profit that fights poverty and inequality around the world. (Keep have also made shoes for Bon Iver and Animal Collective because, you know, vegans).

T.J. Lane to face life in prison, no parole:

T.J. Lane, the Ohio 18-year-old who pleaded guilty to murdering three students – Demetrius Hewlin, 16; Russell King Jr., 17; and Daniel Parmertor, 16 – and wounding three others in a school shooting last February, has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. At his sentencing hearing overnight, Lane wore a white t-shirt with the word ‘KILLER’ scrawled in black on it, smirked through the statements of the murdered teens’ parents, and then gave them the finger after his own statement: “This hand that pulled the trigger that killed your sons now masturbates to the memory. Fuck all of you.” There’s shocking footage which we won’t post because it’s awful; if you want to ruin your morning, click here. (via NBC News, via Gawker)

And on a happier note…

Malala Yousafzai, the 15-year-old schoolgirl who was shot in the head point blank by the Taliban after campaigning for education for girls in Pakistan, has recovered and returned to school. She just completed her first day at Edgbaston High School for Girls in Birmingham, after her father was appointed education  attaché at the Pakistan consulate there. “I am excited that today I have achieved my dream of going back to school,” she said. “I want all girls in the world to have this basic opportunity.”

Reminder: 15 years old. (via BBC)
