In the conversation about the definitive movie of our generation, the Minecraft live action film should be a top contender. Mostly because Jennifer Coolidge is in it. That’s all that matters.

After winning the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series and my heart (yet again), Jennifer Coolidge was cast in the upcoming live action movie based on the video game world of Minecraft. There’s a sentence I bet you never thought you’d hear.

We don’t know just yet exactly who she’ll be playing, but I just know it’s going to be iconic. Perhaps the role of a lifetime. For all it’s worth, I just know this movie will change my life in unexpected ways. I can hear the Oscars acceptance speeches already being penned.

This was literally me reading the announcement.

As the rest of the cast? Well for some reason the Minecraft movie is already stacked with incredible actors including Jack Black, who will be playing the famous ‘Steve’, Jason Mamoa, Danielle Brooks, Sebastian Eugene Hansen and Emma Myers. Minecraft will be directed by Jared Hess who was the brilliance behind Napoleon Dynamite. I’m expecting big things.

The plot is still largely under wraps but I did some investigative journalism (I looked on IMDb) and the movie has the following synopsis:

The malevolent Ender Dragon sets out on a path of destruction, prompting a young girl and her group of unlikely adventurers to set out to save the Overworld.

That doesn’t give us much at all but I’m expecting The Hobbit-sized cinematic shots of Jennifer Coolidge walking through the New Zealand landscape alongside her fellow travellers. Speaking of the unlikely adventurers, I have a few cast suggestions that I think will make the Minecraft movie even more special. Hear me out.

I want, nay need, Angela Bassett to play some type of Minecraft queen, either an evil queen or a good queen. I don’t know and I don’t care. Angela just needs a crown. Keke Palmer needs to play her daughter, the princess. You can’t tell me those two wouldn’t be a perfect mother-daughter duo. Then I need Meg Stalter to be Jennifer’s long lost niece. I think the two would have lots of fun together. To finish it off, Brian Cox should play a wise man who lives in a humble Minecraft farm with his son who he loathes, Kieran Culkin. Just imagine how good that would be. Someone get me on the phone with a casting director now.

All I can say is that I’m ready to laugh, cry, and find the true meaning of life watching the Minecraft movie. Just a shame I have to wait until 2025.
