Wet Hot American Summer is one of those shows that’s really hard to recommend to a friend without sounding a bit like an idiot. It features all your favourite comedians playing deranged teenagers! Jon Benjamin plays a can of mixed vegetables! The guy from Law & Order: SVU humps a fridge!

But that’s exactly what makes it so great. Though the original 2001 film didn’t find commercial success, it did gain enough of a cult following to get Netflix on board for a fan-fuelled reboot that’s full-throttle weird. Writing for Junkee, Simon Miraudo described the 2015 TV reboot/prequel First Day of Camp as “goofy, absurd, and horny”. It’s a little oasis for comedy geeks and they have no reason to hold back on any of it.

Now we have our first proper taste of the second season Wet Hot American Sumer: Ten Years Later and… things look to be about the same.

Ten Years Later comes — duh — 10 years after the events of the original Wet Hot American Summer. At the end of the film, Ben (Bradley Cooper) says “Let’s all promise that in 10 years from today, we’ll meet again, and we’ll see what kind of people we blossomed into”. They’re now delivering on that promise but, weirdly, without Bradley Cooper himself.

Fortunately, the series is seriously stacked with talent. Amy Poehler, Kristen Wiig, Elizabeth Banks, Michael Showalter, Chris Pine, Paul Rudd and the gang are being joined by Adam Scott, Alyssa Milano, Jai Courtney and Jason Schwartzman.

Can’t. Wait.

Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later will hit Netflix on August 4.
