Here’s a blast from the past for you: according to a series of cryptic emojis posted on Twitter, it sure looks like Green Day, Weezer and Fall Out Boy are about to announce a massive Australian tour.

And this isn’t some vague rumour, either. The evidence for this one comes straight from the horses’ mouths. See, earlier today, each band took to their Twitter account to post the same string of emojis, an Australian and New Zealand flag, and what I guess you’d call the ‘tee-hee’ face:

Of course, all three bands are big fans of Australia — we see a lot of Weezer around these parts, and Green Day were last in the country for their acclaimed and sold-out Revolution Radio tour way back in 2017.

Still, that’s something of an eclectic line-up. Green Day and Fall Out Boy make a lot of sense together, both having made heartfelt, abrasive records about the need for personal freedom. Add Weezer into the mix, however, and the whole thing is thrown into wonderful chaos.

It makes even more sense when you consider the three bands are already linking up for the Hella Mega Tour across Europe and North America. So yeah, this looks legit.  But don’t forget, we’ve been burned by these cryptic announcements before: remember when everybody thought My Chemical Romance were reuniting, but they were just celebrating a re-release? Yeah, me too. That sucked.

So, there’s always a chance that this is a way of spruiking some like, greatest hits compilation just for the Australian market? Okay, that doesn’t sound very convincing. I’m just saying, let’s all keep our expectations in check and see what happens.
