This post discusses suicide.

The Discovery almost sounds like a movie that you really don’t want to watch. In this alternate reality, scientists have officially verified the existence of an afterlife, which causes millions of people to end their own life just to get to the next level. Fun?

Really, this offbeat, dark film looks supremely cool. Starring Jason Segel, Rooney Mara, Jesse Plemons, Riley Keough and Robert Redford, the film follows two people who are grappling with the rising suicide count, trying to figure out what this afterlife revelation really means and, you know, kissing a bit I assume.

“People are just going to keep killing themselves,” says Jason Segel desperately, while Roy Orbison plays in the background. Woah.

The director of the film, Charlie McDowell, previously directed The One I Love, a surrealist thriller involving a couple, a weekend getaway and some creepy circumstances that I really, really recommend that you watch.

The Discovery is on Netflix on March 31.
