In Richard Ayoade’s The Double, which opens in the States on April 9, Jesse Eisenberg plays two versions of the same character: one, Simon James, is fumbling, awkward, timid and lonely; the other, James Simon, is brash, confident, and assertive, and a new employee at the tiny and stifling Kafka-esque office Simon James works at.

No one notices that these two are dopplegangers. Chaos and existential crisis ensue.

Based on the novella by Dostoyevsky, the film features a cameo from Aussie Mia Wasikowska, who plays Hannah. Simon James has a crush on Hannah, but he doesn’t have the confidence to do anything about it; Hannah has a crush on James Simon, because she has “never met anyone” like him: “I think that you can tell just by looking at someone.” Ouch.

Sidenote: Wasikowska seems great for this role, but in this scene it’s basically Shoshanna in a wig.
