As Lorde tells it, her new single ‘Green Light’ is narrated by “that drunk girl at the party dancing around crying about her ex-boyfriend who everyone thinks is a mess”. In other words, it’s the sort of song you’d sing boozed at karaoke at 2 o’clock in the morning with your best pals.

Which is exactly the look Lorde was going for at this week’s Billboard Music Awards. She performed ‘Green Light’ live at the 2017 ceremony in Las Vegas — the stage converted into a makeshift karaoke booth, complete with bored friends sitting around waiting for their turn.

It is an absolute joy to watch:

With just over three weeks to go until the release of her second album Melodrama, odds are we can expect to see more videos of Lorde proving she doesn’t need a choreographer soon.

She’s now shared the tracklist for the LP, revealing it’s made up of 11 songs — most of which we’ll be hearing for the first time on its June 16 release date. Only ‘Green Light’ and ‘Liability’ have already been released, though Lorde did play two previously unheard tracks (‘Sober’ and ‘Homemade Dynamite’) on stage last month at Coachella.

This week also saw Ella perform ‘Green Light’ on the BBC’s Later…With Jools Holland — watch it below.
