What an obscure selection (we'll all be renting it tonight).

The number of Hollywood celebrities who spent their formative years working behind the desk of some crappy suburban video shop is surprisingly considerable. Obviously, Quentin Tarantino is the patron saint of these teenage film geeks, famously uttering, “[Working in a video store] was my film school” in numerous self-mythologising interviews. But now you can add Lena Dunham and Jimmy Fallon to the inspiring bunch.

The Girls star stopped by The Tonight Show — which begins airing on ABC2 this coming Monday — last night to wear a lovely pink dress and be generally adorable, and shoot the shit with Fallon about their teen years working at Mr Video 3 and Video 2, respectively. Turns out they would’ve both probably given you the same video recommendation had you asked their advice: the obscure 1991 Reese Witherspoon Southern drama, The Man In The Moon. “Whatever Reese Witherspoon is in, give it to me,” says Dunham, about her philosophy at the time.

“Do you realise this is the most screen time this film has ever gotten?” adds Dunham at the end of their excitable chat, which is probably accurate. Your local video shop — uh, if one still exists — is about to be all out of stock of The Man In The Moon today.
