Dan Harmon: shit-stirrer, shameless self-promoter, and genius parody-maker responsible for the best episodes of your (once) favourite TV show. The Community showrunner has become a controversial figure on the TV landscape in recent years, and now there’s a feature-length doco offering a fly-on-the-wall look at his particular neuroses.
Amongst endless scenes of the schlubby comic draped all schlubbily across hotel room sofas and chatting maniacally to bathroom mirrors, the trailer — released to tie-in with Harmontown‘s premiere at SXSW next week — focuses on Harmon’s self destructive streak and battle with the bottle. “Alcoholic,” offers friend Jack Black, by way of introduction. “I’m his biggest fan, and I fired him,” adds Sarah Silverman. As far as self-mythologising goes, ‘drunk-arsehole-maybe-genius’ seems like an odd angle to take.
