Vivid Sydney is back to take over the city with lights and music from May 24 to June 15, and after teasing their music line-up by announcing shows by Rüfüs Du Sol and The Cure, they’re dropped the whole damn thing today.

After announcing national tours with suspicious Sydney gaps, both Maggie Rogers and Sharon Van Etten will play the Sydney Opera House on 29 May and June 1, respectively. Who else is taking over the sails at Vivid LIVE?

Jazz legend Herbie Hancock, for one, on 10 June, playing through his prolific six-decades deep back-catalogue.

Sigur Ros frontman Jónsi and his partner Alex Somers will play through their music with a 21-piece orchestra and 12-member choir on 11 June; Briggs will throw a house-party on 30 May; Stella Donnelly will play on 28 and 29 May; and Australian legends Dirty Three will reunite for a one-off 25th anniversary show of their 1994 self-titled debut album.

Australian label Spunk Records are also celebrating their 20th anniversary with two nights at the Joan Sutherland Theatre headlined by one-off reformed band The Middle East, joined by Holly Throsby, Jack Ladder and, in their last-ever show, The Ocean Party.

The Opera House’s music line-up also includes a tribute to late composer Johan Johannson, British dance legend A Guy Called Gerald, and Kelsey Lu, as well as the aforementioned The Cure’s 30th anniversary shows of 1989 album Disintegration.

At Carriageworks, FKA Twigs will headline on June 9, and Curve Ball returns for its fourth year on June 8 with a lineup including Mallrat, Hayden James, Touch Sensitive and Set Mo. As previously announced, Rüfüs Du Sol will play three massive shows across June 13-15.

The full-line up feature more than 70 music events, and can be found on Vivid Sydney’s website alongside the full program (which, by the way, includes Spike Lee).
