Village Cinemas Has Axed Tightarse Tuesdays, Tonight We Riot
Is it easy to get around the new rules? Yes. Does that matter? Shut up.
We expect our politicians to betray us. We expect that sometimes, our friends and families will lie to us. Hell, I don’t even believe that my pet dog is 100 percent on my side (I’ve seen the way you look at me, Oscar). We know that there aren’t many people in this godforsaken world who we can actually trust. Today we add one more enemy to that long list: Village Cinemas.
Village Cinemas has recently announced that their beloved Tightarse Tuesdays (or $13 Tuesdays as they’re more formally known) will soon come to an end. From April 26, this movie ticket discount will be exclusively available to Village Movie Club members only, a betrayal of the common people that cannot be underestimated.
Is it easy to join the Movie Club? Yes. In fact, they boast about it taking less than “20 seconds”. Do you occasionally get free stuff? Well, if you see 10 movies you get a free movie ticket. But it doesn’t matter because it’s the principle of the thing. You can’t do this to us! Not now, not after so long! (In a more empathetic note, while discussing the change on Facebook our writer Clem Bastow pointed out that this is kind of crummy for older cinema-goers who won’t necessarily be able to figure out the online sign-up process.)
Such is life I guess, an endless parade of injustices and disappointments. To be fair, movie tickets are so expensive now that you probably can’t even remember the days of going to the cinema. ‘Oh let’s go to a movie this weekend, I’ll just stop by Chanel and buy a ball gown first, you bring the crystal glasses full of caviar and I’ll bring a bottle of Chandon, meet you by my horse-drawn carriage’. Pfft. Rich people.
I haven’t seen Network, but I’m 99 percent it’s about this exact thing, ergo we should be rioting, let’s riot everyone, case closed.
