After suffering a heart attack on a flight from London to Los Angeles last week, actress Carrie Fisher has passed away at the age of 60. Best known for playing Princess Leia in the Star Wars movies, and as an outspoken advocate for mental health, Fisher was beloved by fans, and her death has sparked an outpouring of grief in Hollywood.

Among those to pay tribute to the late actress were her Star Wars co-stars Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill and Billy Dee Williams. Ford released a statement describing Fisher as “one-of-a-kind”, “funny” and “emotionally fearless”, while Hamill tweeted a photo of him and Fisher together with the caption “no words #devastated”. Williams also took to Twitter, writing that he was “deeply saddened” and that “the force is dark today!”

Star Wars creator George Lucas  released a statement in which he said that “Carrie and I have been friends most of our adult lives. She was extremely smart; a talented actress, writer and comedienne with a very colorful personality that everyone loved.”

Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams also shared his memories of Fisher, tweeting that “she was just as brilliant and beautiful, tough and wonderful, incisive and funny as you could imagine.”

Other celebrities to pay their respects on social media included Whoopi Goldberg, Seth MacFarlane, Stephen Fry and William Shatner, as well as comedian Margaret Cho who praised Fisher as “a great ally for mental health and addiction.”

Rest in peace, Carrie Fisher.
