Passengers on United Airlines flight UA1175 have shared jawdropping images from their plane, which was forced to make an emergency landing after its engine started to fall off.

Its engine.

Started to fall off.

Travellers on board the Boeing 777-222 from San Francisco to Honolulu reportedly heard a loud bang roughly 35 minutes before the plane was scheduled to land. It was at that point that passenger Erik Haddad looked out of his window and saw this:

I’m no engineer, but that does not seem ideal.

The pilots quickly sent out a distress call before making an emergency landing. No one on board was hurt. In fact, based on Twitter, it seems like they were pretty chill about it.

From all reports, the pilots and crew did an excellent job of communicating with passengers and keeping things (relatively) calm.

Still, doesn’t exactly sound like a fun start to a Hawaiian vacation.
