Tool And Justin Bieber Are Having The Most Stupid Beef Of 2019
"You must be unhappy with yourself that you want to make people feel small who express their admiration for you."
If you’d told us at the beginning of 2019 that the biggest hit would be a country rap song put out by an unknown artist who’s only previous claim to fame was running a Nicki Minaj stan account, we would have had some questions.
And if you’d also said that Tool and Justin Bieber would be locked in a bizarre and incredibly stupid beef…well actually no we probably would have believed that. It’s 2019 people, everything is up for grabs.
It kicked off innocuously last week, when Justin Bieber asked his fans to identify some lyrics he’d used in an Instagram story. He’d written: “Who are you to wave your finger?/You must have been out of your head/Eyehole deep in muddy waters/You practically raised the dead,” — which Tool fans will instantly recognise as being from ‘The Pot’, a track from the band’s last album 10,000 Days.
The news that Bieber was a Tool fan surprised a fair few people, none more so than the band’s frontman Maynard James Keenan, who simply tweeted “#bummer”.
Which must have stung Bieber more than a little. It also kicked off one of the most bonkers Twitter threads of all time, with confused Tool fans clashing with equally-as-confused Beliebers.
Imagine being no one in life and trying to tell one of the best frontmen of all Metal how to handle an occasional trash producing fan ?

you should be happy that a legend is a fan of you because without him i will never know who you are until now.

Now, Bieber’s wife Hailey has stepped into the fray, dressing down Keenan in a withering tweet.
“He expressed he was a fan of your music,” she wrote. “Grew up listening to your music. You must be unhappy with yourself that you want to make people feel small who express their admiration for you. Very childish and hurtful thing to do. I hope you find security within yourself. Sad place to be.”

Maynard has yet to respond. Maybe he’s chastened, or maybe he’s just busy being on tour and putting the finishing touches on the band’s long awaited new album — which is due out August 30.
It’s not the first time Bieber has drawn the ire of the older rock crowd — in fact at this stage it’s probably easier to pick which artists haven’t had a go at him. The crowning beef was last year’s rumble with Marilyn Manson, who called the pop star “a real piece of shit” and said he had “the mind of a squirrel.”
Mind you, after releasing that god awful remix of Billie Eilish’s ‘bad guy’, he might deserve it.
