There is a generation of gamers and music fans that based their entire personality on the Tony Hawk‘s Pro Skater games.

The first two installments were released in 1999 and 2000 respectively, and forever changed the way that people thought about simulation games.

Rather than fuddy-duddy flight simulator games for your dad, these were breathlessly cool and cutting edge experiments in style. Of course, learning to skate was integral to both games, but it wasn’t the whole point of the exercise: there was the music to drink up; the sights to see; the lifestyle to inhabit.

I mean, lest we forget, the soundtrack to that first installment featured everyone from The Dead Kennedys to Primus to Unsane. You could spend the next ten years invested in no other acts but those three, and you’d have a great decade.

And that’s not even to mention Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2, which upped the ante by adding Anthrax, Rage Against The Machine and Mos Def into the mix.

Well, do I have some good news for all of you mired in the early two-thousands, as I am: those first two games are getting a complete remaster, with new songs added on the soundtrack.

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2 will hit Playstation 4, Xbox One and PC on September 4. It’s not clear what new songs will be added at this stage, but many of the songs from the original have been confirmed to return.

Needless to say, the internet is pretty bloody excited about the news, with Twitter in particular becoming a flood of memes and jokes.

We have been truly blessed by the Pro Skater gods, and should spend the rest of the day ironing our jorts and polishing our wallet chains in anticipation.
