‘Tonightly’ Has Stirred Up An Angry Nest of Anti-Vaxxers With Their Latest Video
It's called 'Don't Care Daycare' and people are MAD.
Everyone say a prayer for Tonightly With Tom Ballard‘s official Facebook page, because their latest parody video ‘Don’t Care Daycare’ is basically the equivalent of throwing a handful of honey at a swarm of anti-vaxxing wasps.
Bridie Connell stars in the video as an anti-vaxxer and a “vegan mum to a vegan toddler, living here off the grid in the beautiful Byron Bay” who seeks to open a daycare where “the pesky government can’t force you to protect your children from contagious diseases”. The sketch is a response to recent news that a Byron Bay mother is opening a daycare for unvaccinated children, as a response to the ‘No Jab, No Play’ laws. Once in effect, the laws prevent unvaccinated children in NSW from attending day care, with directors face a fine of up to $5,500 for circumventing the rules.
‘Don’t Care Daycare’ is a pretty wonderful sketch, that perfectly skewers the anti-vax mentality. “Your tots will be taught reading, writing, and how to manipulate scientific data to support your theories” says Bridie, before describing the facilities at the centre, which include “a state of the art polo field… sorry, POLIO field.” Anyway, go watch it, it’s great.

Of course, you can’t make fun of anti-vaxxers without risking the ire of anti-vaxxers, and currently the comments of the original video are being absolutely trampled by their rubella weakened limbs. It’s a real smorgasboard of conspiracy theories, MS Paint style memes and people really angry at the government and at comedy in general. Also there’s quite a few vegans who are trying to extricate their own moral choices from being lumped in with people who miss smallpox, which is fair enough.
Only thing that let that skit down was the unnecessary intro of “a vegan mother of a vegan toddler,” which was not referenced again and merely a cheap, irrelevant shot at vegans. That was disappointing and a little bit shithouse.

Look, it’s all pretty funny, and actually a pretty enjoyable comments section to wade through.
