This Instagram Filter Is The Only Good Thing That’s Come From Australia’s Toilet Paper Crisis
Are you more of a Who Gives A Crap person or Coles-brand 2-ply?
Between The Chats resurrecting the “succulent Chinese meal” man everyone thought was dead and the toilet paper crisis that’s swept across the nation, we’ve really had ourselves a week haven’t we?
In case you missed it, Aussies across Australia have been freaking the fuck out about toilet paper. Grocery stores have had to limit the number of rolls purchasable, people have pulled out knives while trying to buy the precious commodity, newspapers have printed emergency bog roll, and a man was even tasered when he got way too heated over the bathroom tissue.
So it’s pretty safe to say that people are losing their minds over toilet paper, which makes very little sense.
The rush to stockpile staple household items and nonperishables has come from fears of Australia potentially going into lockdown — similar to those of Wuhan in China — despite it being highly unlikely. Australia’s first two deaths at the hands of COVID-19 coronavirus partnered with the media’s sensationalised reporting of the illness has caused mass panic amongst the public.
This, for some reason, has made Aussies think that they’re either destined to shit themselves to death if they contract the virus or that they need to be ready to be locked in their homes for months on end. With a measly 3.4 percent death rate and a low total of 60 cases within Australia, the demand for all this bog roll is totally excessive.
But logic doesn’t really exist anymore, so people continue to freak out and clear out shelves. It’s really just shown the absolute worst of people, but one Aussie has managed to create the only good thing to come out of the Great Toilet Paper Shortage of 2020 — the Toilet Paper Panic Instagram filter.
I made this instagram filter for australians who can’t decide which brand of toilet paper to panic buy. #toiletpapergate @WhoGivesACrapTP pic.twitter.com/1hBynxbEtr

The story filter works like most “Which ____ Are You?” filters, in that it cycles through a stack of toilet paper options until it decides which speaks to you most. Naturally, the filter starts on the question: “Which Toilet Paper Should I Panic Buy?”
Created by Melbourne-based social wizard Ben Clay, the filter gives you the option of the classics like Quilton, Kleenex and Coles-brand toilet tissue. But the filter even offers some new school alternatives like Who Gives A Crap and the environmentally-friendly Green Cane toilet paper.
Ben Clay told Junkee that he created the filter because he had a bit of spare time as his newborn slept. “I made it just for laughs after seeing the insane footage of people panic buying toilet paper at the supermarkets in my newsfeed,” Ben said. “I’m glad people are using it and getting a kick out of it.”
Honestly, amazing areas.
