Last week former Alaskan governor and 2008 vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin shotputted herself back into public life with a completely logical endorsement of fellow abnormally large toddler Donald Trump. To make sure her presence was truly felt she delivered much of her address in the style of your drunk Aunt while flailing her arms, dropping bizarre rhymes, and vaguely touching on political topics in the same way a ransom note would when cut out of newspaper headlines.

While this was terrible news for US political life — inconceivably, this led Trump to slightly increase his lead in the Iowa polls — it was a godsend for comedians and satirists. Trevor Noah was literally giggling in delight during the next day’s Daily Show. Stephen Colbert embraced Palin as the “original material girl” who’d graciously come back for a reunion tour to perform her “greatest hits”. And now, as we all so desperately hoped, Tina Fey has got back in on the action.

As fun as all this is, it’s also fairly concerning that a comedian can whip out the same impression of such an objectively incompetent and widely derided politician eight years on and still have it be as timely as ever. America, this is your tipping point. Please don’t let us endure another decade of Trump jokes.
