Some say the fact that Heidecker is a murderer hurt his chances. Heidecker says it's not technically true that he killed anyone.

In November 2017, Adult Swim exclusively aired the five-hour-long trial of Tim Heidecker.

Heidecker, best known to audiences for appearing in the cult classic comedy series Tim & Eric Awesome Show, Great Job, stood accused of mismanaging a festival known as Electric Sun. The rushed and illogically prepared music event resulted in the deaths of 20 souls, all of them killed due to to the man’s criminal negligence.

Of course, that’s not strictly true. The event was a part of a grander web of fictional narratives Heidecker and his fellow comedian Gregg Turkington have been telling for years. The two are the masterminds behind On Cinema At The Cinema, an absurdist TV series that has grown increasingly complicated as it has gone on, eventually morphing into the long and astonishingly straight-faced Heidecker trial.

Now, that On Cinema story is reaching its next logical phase; a feature-length film.

Called Mister America, the mockumentary follows the exploits of Heidecker following the trial, as he attempts to defeat the DA who shamed him in the fallout of Electric Sun. It’s a political satire of the highest — and the silliest — order with Heidecker bumbling about the place, playing his typical mix of goofy American suburban dad and dangerous sociopath.

Of course, those who have followed the many hours of On Cinema will be the best positioned to pick up on all of Mister America‘s pleasures. But the movie has been deliberately given a theatrical release because producers are sure that it will appeal to wider audiences. That means even if the first two paragraphs of this article were utter nonsense to you, there will still be lots for you to enjoy.

After all, the film has already been given the stamp of approval by Get Out director Jordan Peele, and Hereditary director Ari Aster. What more could you possibly need?
