TikTok Teens Are Remaking An Iconic ‘Mean Girls’ Scene And It’s Actually Very Wholesome
"Meet the plastics".
Friendship groups on TikTok are using the ‘Meet the Plastics’ scene from Mean Girls to introduce the world to their friends and it’s surprisingly wholesome.
One of the most quotable movies of all time has to be the 2004 comedy Mean Girls. The ‘Meet the Plastics’ scene, where Damian and Janis give Cady a run down of who the plastics are, being one of the most memorable. Frankly, it’s iconic.
The pair break down the Plastics, describing Karen as “one of the dumbest girls you’ll ever meet”, Gretchen as “knowing everyone’s business”, and Regina as “the queen bee”. Each with their own distinct personalities, Karen, Gretchen, and Regina are one of the most recognisable female friendship groups in cinematic history.
Now the teens of TikTok have taken the narrative around the Plastics and applied it to their own friendships groups — and it’s kind of wholesome.
Through showing that there’s more to a person than their initial appearance implies, these TikToks work to introduce their friends true personalities.
The trend is so great because it’s common for people to be judged before anyone actually gets to know them. Plus #meettheplastics also gives teens the opportunity to showcase the diversity in their friendship groups.
And the audio isn’t just reserved to all-female groups either, with guys hopping in and on the trend too.
The video doesn’t even need more than one person to be effective either. Sometimes one Mean Girls character description is more than enough to describe a situation.
I don’t know about you, but I’d love to see a Mean Girls remake with one of these groups.
