Watch These Hilarious TikToks To Make Yourself Feel Better During Coronavirus Quarantine
TikToks to cleanse your timeline.
Last New Year’s Eve, I took a private moment to hope, with all my might, that 2020 would be a better year than 2019.
As 2020 has agonisingly unfolded, the universe has shown no such grace — rather, preferring to force us into realising just how good 2019 was in comparison.
In this, our current landscape ruled by the spread of coronavirus, the inundation of horrific news never slows. Travel bans, overwhelmed hospitals, empty supermarket shelves — and then, just when you think it can’t get any worse, the news morphs into the surreal: Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson cheerfully inform the world that they have tested positive for coronavirus.
A sense of unease hangs at every turn.
I’ve felt it deeply and have looked far and wide for a sense of solace. The internet, in general, is of little comfort, such is the tenacity of the 24-hour news cycle. I feel like my computer is constantly yelling at me, simultaneously telling me to panic and to calm down.
In a fit of helplessness, I downloaded TikTok after a strong vote of confidence for the app from my little sister. “It’s just so funny,” she said. “I can’t explain it.”
The distraction I so dearly longed for was delivered to me in every way I could have imagined. For every earnest meme or trend on the app, there’s its satirical equivalent.
Wildly inappropriate, even morally questionable jokes are nestled comfortably amongst kid-friendly dance trends and craft projects; Wattpad fanfiction re-enactments precede auto-tuned recollections of the drudgery and absurdity of hospitality and retail life.
You have to hand it to the youth of 2020 — even in the darkest, most terrifying times, they really know how to make each other laugh.
Here are some TikToks to cleanse your timeline, even just temporarily:
In The Workplace…
This is one of the first TikToks I ever saw and I revisit it often. I was reminded of it most recently when Peter Dutton was diagnosed with coronavirus.
God’s timing is always right.
*pouty face*
What a journey.
Family Matters
Classic dad!
“MOOOoooOOOOMMmmmmMMMYYYYYYY!!!”
Oh…my god.
Bless You, Rosa
Rosa is the creation of Adam Martinez from Texas.
Modelled after the girls he grew up with, the Rosa videos are funny in and of themselves — but I personally think it’s even funnier when users take her audio and make their own videos.
And now a little coronavirus special, as a treat:
The Best Part Of TikTok Is The POV’s
I think it’s time for you to go, bitch.
This one isn’t funny so much as it’s insanely relatable. We’ve all been in this situation. I know I have.
I Love You SnarkyMarky
Special mention goes to TikTok user SnarkyMarky, whose POVs from inside the classroom are somehow overwhelmingly accurate to hundreds of thousands of people. Just watch.
And Finally…This Is For Rachel
Oh Rachel. Why’d you take her off the motherfucking schedule?
This is for Scomo.
So there it is, my humble offering to you in this time of need.
Use these TikToks wisely, allow them to cleanse the timeline and provide a quick and silly laugh when those are difficult to come by. And, uh, don’t forget to @ me in the funny ones you find along the way.
