There Are Fifty Benches Around London Designed To Look Like Classic Books
Sit on a Dickens.
In the most interesting effort to promote and celebrate reading we’ve seen since the Lucky Book Club, the National Literacy Trust has collaborated with public art installers Wild In Art for the ‘Books About Town’ project, in which 50 benches designed to look like psychedelic storybooks are dotted around London.
All the selected books, collections, or authors are linked to London in some way, which is probably why they neglected to include anything from Judy Blume’s Fudge series.

The benches will be situated along four different walking trails (walking – we know, right?) throughout the city until September 15, after which time they’ll be auctioned off, with proceeds going to the National Literacy Trust. Check out some of our favourite benches below, and the full list here.
Something like this would be an amazing addition to the Art and About series in Sydney. Imagine waiting for a bus on the Paul Jennings’ Gizmo bench, or taking a breather on an open copy of Morris Gleitzman’s Blabber Mouth between walking from the Pitt Street JB Hi-Fi to the Broadway JB Hi-Fi. Book-nerd heaven.
