Today’s a big day for Thelma Plum, as it marks the long awaited release of her debut album Better In Blak.

The record has been a long time coming — in fact, she had an albums worth of material ready to go a couple of years ago, before she made the decision to scrap it.

“Life just…gets in the way sometimes,” Plum told us in our latest Headliner profile.“I got to the start of last year, and all those songs were already a year old. I had changed so much in the year prior, and I felt like I was selling myself short. I had to write about these experiences. I had to start again.”

“It was hard, because I worked just as hard on that record. I sunk a lot of hours into making it happen. At the end of the day, though, I knew that this was my first record. It was going to be the first time, hopefully, that a lot of people heard my music. I wanted to be true to it, and I wanted to be true to myself. I wanted it to represent who I am now, and not who I was a few years ago.”

As part of Better In Blak’s rollout, Plum dropped by the triple j studios for her run at Like A Version. She took on Khalid’s breakout hit ‘Young Dumb & Broke’, twisting in a bit of Lil Nas X’s ‘Old Town Road’ — because why the fuck not?
