2021 marks the 30th anniversary of Australia’s favourite cultural export, The Wiggles, and to celebrate, the skivvy-wearing entertainers have announced a bonkers tour with the OG line-up.

This isn’t the first time that the band have hit the road, performing a series of over-18 gigs to the delight of an audience that wants nothing more than to relive the pleasures of ‘Fruit Salad’ in a packed and sweaty club — The Wiggles toured for their older audience four years ago. But this time around, the shows promise to be even wilder than before, thanks to the support slots, which will be filled by cult favourites Polish Club and DZ Deathrays.

Yep, it’ll be sheer tonal pandemonium, a night of left turns that will see the best of Australian hard rock come up against some of the finest songs for children ever written.

The Wiggles have also this morning announced somewhat sadder news: Emma Wiggle, the yellow skivvy-wearing member of the new line-up, has announced that she will retire from the group to spend more time at home and working on other projects.

“Like many people around the world, the pandemic has given me time to reflect on what is important in life,” Emma Wiggle said in a statement. “For me, that means spending more time at home, something that I didn’t realise I was missing out on being away eight months of the year on tour, but something that I have really cherished over the last 18 months.

“I am also really looking forward to devoting more time and energy on completing my PhD that incorporates my ongoing passion for sign language, dance and film editing, and to having more time to work with the Deaf community.”

Emma has been a member of the group for eight long years. She will be replaced by Tsehay Hawkins, the young star who was recently announced as a member of Fruit Salad TV, The Wiggles spin-off (much to the annoyance of perpetual crybaby Matt Canavan.)
