The Internet’s Latest Meme Is Based On An Obscure Line From ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’

"Hail HYDRA." [also, spoiler alert]

It’s pretty amazing how two simple words can change the course of so many movie plots. This week, the internet has given this treatment to their favourite films, TV shows and pop culture bits by creating a meme inspired by the new installment of Captain America, and the results will have you chuckling.

For those of you who haven’t seen the movie (look away NOW if you can’t handle spoilers), the film features a scene in which a “minor character from a previous Marvel movie leans over to another person” and whispers “Hail HYDRA”. (And for those of you wondering what the hell ‘HYDRA’ is, it’s the fictional and Nazi-connected terrorist organisation, which features in the Marvel Comics.)

Well, thanks to the internet, if you search “whispering couple” in Google, you will now find a  #HailHydra meme such as this:

While this ‘political’ one invents a questionable connection between President Obama and HYDRA, other online folks are instead choosing to change the course of rom-com, horror and cartoon plots before our very eyes.
