The Flaming Lips Just Uploaded ‘Christmas On Mars’ To YouTube, In Full
An early Christmas present from your favourite group of oddballs.
“No description available” could be the best description you’ll find of Christmas On Mars. The 2008 cult classic was written and directed by Flaming Lips frontman Wayne Coyne, features the entire band in its cast, and was just uploaded to YouTube, so you can watch it for free.
Filmed largely in Coyne’s batshit crazy house and the surrounding Oklahoma suburbs, the sci-fi film follows the progressive insanity of Major Syrtis (multi-instrumentalist Steven Drozd), who’s trying to organise a Christmas pageant to celebrate the birth of the first baby born on a newly-colonised Mars.
It is an exceptionally strange film, but — depending on the tolerance of your family/their inclination for psychoactive drugs — it could just be the perfect antidote to the Christmas movie blues.
You were warned.
