Turns Out The Real Star Of ‘The Crown’ Season 4 Is A Mouse
Nominate them for Best Guest Actor!
In The Crown‘s 4th season on Netflix, a seemingly random mouse makes a cameo alongside the Queen Mother.
Over the weekend many people sat down to laugh, cry and gasp at yet another season of Netflix’s glamorously expensive dramatisation of the royal family’s Wikipedia page. Season 4 of The Crown covers the period between 1977 and 1990, which includes the election of Margaret Thatcher, the introduction of lady Diana, and Charles and Diana’s Australian tour among other historical events.

Starring Olivia Coleman (Fleabag, The Favourite) as Queen Elizabeth, Gillian Anderson (Sex Education, The X-Files) as Margaret Thatcher, and Helena Bonham Carter (Ocean’s 8, The King’s Speech) as Princess Margaret, there’s enough star power in The Crown for it to appeal even the likes of a raging anti-colonialist like myself.
Yet according to some very confused Crown viewers on Twitter, the stand out cameo from this new season is from this inscrutable mouse that scurries across a wide shot of Helena Bonham Carter during a scene in episode 3.
Hold on…was that a mouse?!! ??? #TheCrown pic.twitter.com/5HCDXIPIIm

This blink and you miss it cameo sparks the question: Is this another Starbucks Cup in Game of Thrones sort of production snafu? Most likely! But the team over at The Crown are taking it all in good sport.
Most importantly, they are paying this method actor the respect they deserve!

The Crown‘s mouse is objectively the most unproblematic character to appear in the series thus far and provides brief relief from the endless woes of these rich monarchs. But many are still scratching their heads over why this mouse was there, why they were kept in the shot, what does it all mean?

With their audacity, authenticity, and mastery of method acting, it is clear that this mouse is the only resident of the royal residence to earn the title of King!
YO WTF I just saw a goddamn MOUSE scurrying about in The Crown and we just passed by it like nothing happened??? Am I supposed to assume the royal family is infested by rodents?? LMAO. Was it an accident? Did they hire a mouse for filming??? I MUST KNOW. pic.twitter.com/xG6lLLOU17
