Terrifying Footage Has Emerged Of A Koala Hunting A South Australian Woman For Sport
God help us all.
It’s happening. The time has come. Koalas have only ever wanted to live a simple life napping in our bushes, snacking on eucalyptus, and enjoying their chlamydia in peace, but we’ve insisted on using them for our benefit. Now, after one too many photoshoots for celebrity Instagram accounts and awkward playdates with visiting world leaders, they’ve snapped.
Over the weekend, South Australian dairy farmer Ebony Churchill uploaded a video to her Facebook showing a koala ruthlessly pursuing her quad bike. Though just 43 seconds long, the pure determination in the animal’s eyes and the sheer terror of its prey has sent the clip viral and made it infinitely more entertaining than many full-length movies. With this in mind, here’s a very important soundtrack to improve the overall experience:
And here’s the clip in its full anxiety-inducing glory:
With over 20,000 people sharing the footage from Churchill’s personal Facebook in just a couple of days, the ensuing attention has even led The Sydney Morning Herald to seek the advice of an expert. Brent Ellis, Director of the Koala Ecology Group from the University of Queensland, described the event as “very unusual” due to the fact the animal is usually quite sedate during the day. Though it was likely attracted to the noise from the quad bike, Dr Ellis suggested the woman in the clip was right to keep her distance.
“[Koalas] are nothing at all like the animals that you see in the zoos that people cuddle,” he said. “They’ve got super sharp claws and really strong and very sharp teeth. They can do quite significant damage.” Also, they’re about to come into mating season. God help us all.
