Sydney is blessed with a handful of good Japanese BBQ places, and Rengaya is the kingpin. This can get a little expensive if you’re feeling like a glutton, but you won’t leave with any regrets.

Tips: Start with the premium wagyu yukke (Japanese tartare), order the premium meats (wagyu shortrib, wagyu oyster blade, and don’t forget the ox tongue), sit back and appreciate.  Don’t overcook the meat, just let the fats melt and the flavours open up; if you do overcook it be a gentleman and serve it to your friend.  You get some complimentary dipping condiments, but it’s worth ordering the radish ponzu as well. Don’t go too hard on sides, but do cop some king brown mushrooms and aspargus, as well as the “foil-yaki” (garlic in butter).
