Tame Impala’s ‘Tiny Desk Concert’ Will Chill You Out To Immeasurable Levels
Pure disco bliss.
Tame Impala recorded an at-home version of NPR‘s Tiny Desk Concert, and it’s 16 minutes and 21 seconds of utter bliss.
Enlisting bandmates Jay Watson and Dominic Simper, Kevin Parker rebuilds a trio of tracks from his 2020 album The Slow Rush and transforms them into something a little looser and more lively than their album counterparts.
Parker calls the experience “Tame Impala Soundsystem”, to give you an idea. The MIDI-sounds are played with on the fly, and they’ve got a whole heap of equipment to play with, bouncing off each other’s movements.
“I’ll get Jay (Watson) and Dom (Simper) and we’ll do this kind of electronic jam with heaps of equipment around us and we’ll recreate the songs with samplers and sequencers,” said Parker. “I’ve wanted to do something like this for a while and thought Tiny Desk would be the opportunity to do it.”
The trio turns ‘Breathe Deeper’, ‘Is It True’ and lead single ‘Patience’ into something super special — it’ll especially appeal to those who found The Slow Rush a little too refined and polished.
NPR may have pissed off a lot of Australians yesterday by deciding that ‘Emu’ is pronounced ‘EE-Moo’, but they’ve pretty much instantly rectified themselves.
Last week, Four Tet released a dreamy remix of Tame Impala’s ‘Is It True’, and recently, Parker’s bandmates Watson and Simper dropped their own solo music as GUM and bambi, respectively.
